WHO ARE WE
In Racine County, people can spend months—or even years—in jail without a conviction, resulting in emotional and financial hardships for individuals, their families and the community. Because we fundamentally believe this is a waste of human potential, we created SOL (Sustaining our Leaders), a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to supporting individuals and their families before, during, and after their encounters with the criminal justice system.Led by individuals who themselves are formerly incarcerated, we believe peer-to-peer support is the most effective means of changing lives, shifting outcomes, and building a just future for all. In addition to supporting individuals and families, we work with other organizations to eliminate the deep racial disparities that have been Wisconsin’s shameful legacy for decades. We also offer training, mentorship, and opportunities for individuals impacted by the system to become advocates and leaders in the movement for justice reform.
Vision
Our long-term vision is a world where everyone is treated fairly and individuals who have been involved with the criminal justice system are able to lead productive and sustainable lives in a welcoming and supportive community.
Mission
The mission of this Corporation is to identify, engage, inspire, and empower new leaders from marginalized communities through civic engagement and education, and to provide support in overcoming systemic barriers.
VALUES
These values ensure that SOL is not just an organization, but a movement dedicated to lasting change.
Community Empowerment
Empowering directly impacted individuals and their families to be advocates for themselves, for others, and for the community.
Justice
Challenging systemic inequalities and advocating for fair treatment for all.
Accountability
Holding institutions responsible while fostering trust within the community.
Solidarity
Standing with impacted people through mutual support, not charity.
Impacted Leadership
Ensuring directly impacted people have power and voice in the movement.

WHAT WE DO
SOL is committed to uplifting the voices of those with lived experience. We offer training, mentorship, and opportunities for individuals impacted by the system to become advocates and leaders in the movement for justice reform.
PROJECTS
JOSHUA GLOVER JUSTICE FUND (BAIL FUND)
The Joshua Glover Justice Fund provides urgent bail assistance and post-release support to individuals impacted by pretrial incarceration. Inspired by the legacy of Joshua Glover, a formerly enslaved man who fought for his freedom with the support of abolitionists in Wisconsin, we are committed to dismantling unjust pretrial detention practices and advocating for systemic change.
The Racine Participatory Defense Hub provides community-based support to individuals navigating the criminal justice system. Families and community members come together to share knowledge, resources, and strategies to ensure fairer legal outcomes. By making the system see people beyond their charges, we help change narratives and reduce harm and time served.
